One man was shot and killed and another was grazed by a bullet near the Trinidad neighborhood in Northeast Washington on Monday afternoon, according to D.C. police.
That fatal shooting and two others on Sunday brought the number of homicides in D.C. this year to 145, about a 17 percent increase over the same period in 2022. At least 27 people have been killed in July.

The latest shooting occurred about 12:30 p.m. in the 1100 block of Mount Olivet Road NE, near West Virginia Avenue NE. The area is also near the campus of Gallaudet University. Police said the victim, whose name they did not immediately release, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Two men were fatally shot in two separate incidents Sunday afternoon.
A man was killed about 2:45 p.m. in the 100 block of Farragut Street NW, said Officer Sean Hickman, a D.C. police spokesman. The site of the shooting is in a residential area just west of Rock Creek Cemetery. Police identified the victim as Donald B. Childs, 46, of Northwest Washington.
About two hours later, around 4:45 p.m., a man was shot in the 2300 block of 13th Place NE, Hickman said. Police said that man died at a hospital. The site is a residential street in the Brentwood area, a few blocks east of the Rhode Island Avenue Metro station.
Police have not released the name of the victim.
No information about suspects or motives was available.
