D.C. police Saturday identified the two men who died in a double shooting on Friday morning in the Washington Highlands neighborhood of Southeast Washington.
Charles Luster Jr., 56, and Tyjon Clayton, 20, were both shot just before 11:45 a.m. in the 4200 block of Sixth Street SE, at Chesapeake Street near Hendley Elementary School, D.C. police said.

One of the men died at the scene and the other was pronounced dead at a nearby hospital after being taken there for treatment, according to a police statement Saturday that didn’t provide further details. Both men lived in Southeast Washington, police said.
No arrests were made as of Saturday afternoon, and police said they were looking for a red, four-door Jeep with four occupants. They are offering a reward of up to $25,000 for information leading to an arrest and conviction. Acting D.C. police chief Pamela A. Smith said two people jumped out of the back of the vehicle and shot the two individuals.

“This community deserves the right to live peacefully, just as any person would in their respective communities,” Smith said in a briefing for reporters at the scene.
Homicides are up 15 percent in the District in comparison with this time last year.
Video footage posted online and broadcast on TV appears to show part of the attack and appears to confirm the account given by Smith.
In the video, possibly captured by a nearby surveillance camera, a red, four-door vehicle appears at a curb in bright sunlight. The doors open. Two people pop out and run back in the direction from which the vehicle came.
One carries a long object, grasped in both hands and held parallel to the ground.
Someone who was at a bus shelter runs in the opposite direction and quickly turns a corner.
The two who emerged from the vehicle run outside the view of the camera. Within about four seconds, they come back into view. They get back into the open doors of the vehicle, which starts moving almost before they are inside.
The video snippet lasts less than 20 seconds.
