Prince William made ‘mistake’ driving with Andrew says expert

King Charles has overruled Prince William to allow Prince Andrew back into the Royal Family fold, according to sources, years after he stepped down as a working royal in disgrace.

Over the weekend, the Duke of York was seen being driven to Crathie Kirk near Balmoral by the Prince, a move which was reportedly planned by the monarch.

It has been viewed by many as a boost to Andrew's reputation, with one source revealing: "It’s more than he (Andrew) could have wished for."

An insider at Balmoral stated there had been some confusion over how Andrew would get to the church, until he received a call on Sunday morning saying he would be publicly driven in the same car as William and Princess Kate.

The family knew the moment would be photographed, suggesting the Duke is preparing to be more active in their lives, although it is unlikely he will ever return to a public role.

This is in spite of both Charles and William lobbying the late Queen Elizabeth to strip Andrew of his military titles and charity patronages in the wake of his out-of-court payment of £12million to Virginia Giuffre, who had accused him of sexual assault.

The settlement was made without any admission of liability and Prince Andrew has consistently and vehemently denied any wrongdoing.

William and Kate also threatened to boycott the Garter Day parade at Windsor Castle that year if Andrew was allowed to take part, so last Sunday suggests he has had a change of heart.

One insider has said that while Prince William will attend private family functions with Andrew, such as church services at Sandringham and Balmoral, he has no desire to be seen with him in public.

Another source stated: "It appears he may have had his wings clipped somewhat."

Rachael Maskell, MP for York Central, who raised a bill in parliament seeking to strip the royal of his Duke of York title, said: "Any public rehabilitation of the Duke of York is certainly not something the country as a whole would welcome at all."

She added: "The Duke carried an ambassadorial role across the world and to be represented by someone with a questionable past, certainly for the people of the country that I represent, is not something we want.

"People have welcomed the slimming down of the monarchy, both in terms of royals and vast numbers of staff working for them. And with an increased cost of monarchy, up to record figures this year, at a time of great hardship for so many millions of people across our country, this is not something the country is looking for."

One royal source told The Telegraph following the family holiday at Balmoral: "Safe to say it's a holiday where the entire family has been invited, the entire family are participating and the entire family are included.

"Anyone looking for a family divided angle will be sorely disappointed."
