Nigel Farage shares views on India’s moon landing

       India made history on Wednesday when its Chandrayaan-3 rocket became the first vehicle to land on the Moon's south pole.

       The world's most popular country joined an exclusive club - with the US, China, and Russia - to land a vehicle on the Moon when it completed the historic feat.

       However, the landing has been criticised by some who argue the UK should not be sending foreign aid money to a country that has the resources and capability to launch Moon landings.

       On Wednesday, ex-UKIP leader Nigel Farage hit out at the Foreign Office for sending ￡33.4 million to India over the past year, a figure which is expected to further increase to ￡57 million in 2024/25.

       While Narendra Modi's government has committed funding to space exploration, a recent report by the University of Oxford found that hundreds of millions of people in India still lack adequate nutrition, sanitation, housing and good cooking facilities.

       Foreign aid spending is largely used as a form of soft power for the UK, but the amount has fallen from a peak of ￡15.1 billion in 2019 to ￡12.8 billion in 2022 under the Conservatives.

       Last month, the Government caused an outcry when it emerged it was sending some ￡50million to China in foreign aid.
