The District soared to a record high of 99 degrees, surpassing 97 in 1881. It marked the District’s hottest day of the summer and also its highest temperature this late in the year since September 2010, when it was 99 on the 24th.
Both BWI Marshall and Dulles International airports also set calendar day record highs — reaching 99 degrees, surpassing the old marks of 96. Dulles matched its highest temperature observed in September for the third day in a row. At BWI, it marked the first time on record that it has hit at least 97 degrees on three straight September days.
On Wednesday, these same locations could hit 100.

Tomorrow (Wednesday): As on recent days, there will be few clouds and it will get hot, fast. Plan on record and near-record highs in the mid-90s to around 100 again. That will probably be closer to 100 most spots in the urban core. Heat index values will be around 105 at times during the afternoon.

Wednesday records: Calendar day high temperature records will be threatened yet again Wednesday. A few records could also fall Thursday, although it shouldn’t be quite as hot.
Wednesday could well be the hottest day of the ongoing heat wave, which began Sunday. Predicted highs around 100 degrees would set records in the District, and also at BWI and Dulles airports, surpassing the old mark of 96. Stay cool and hydrated.
