Turkey 'declares war' on Russia in horrifying translation gaffe in front of Vladimir Putin

Turkey appeared to declare "war" on Vladimir Putin during a high-profile meeting.

Recep Tayyip Erdogan held landmark talks with his Russian counterpart in Sochi as the war in Ukraine reached yet another pivotal point.

But the meeting took a bizarre twist when the official translator made a horrifying gaffe that could have sparked a huge conflict between Russia and NATO.

The Turkish-Russian translator said "there is war between Russia and Turkey" before the person quickly continued and corrected himself.

Putin, who returned to the negotiating table to discuss the Black Sea Grain deal, appeared strangely unfazed by the embarrassing remark.

Man hospitalised after being injured by a mine

Ukrainians have been urged to be aware of the presence of mines, particularly in areas previously occupied by Russian troops.

The country's emergency services reported a man was injured by a mine in the Mykolayiv region near the Black Sea.

The Telegram message read: "A man, born in 1997, went to collect firewood. Picking up one of the dry pieces of wood, he heard a suspicious 'click' and immediately lay down on the ground. At that moment, an explosive object under a branch detonated. The man received shrapnel wounds and is currently in the hospital.

Panic as Russia fires ‘drone attack’ near NATO border, killing one

Russian forces attacked a Ukrainian port on the border with NATO "for almost three hours" overnight, killing at least one person, local officials have revealed.

Dozens of Iranian-made Shahed-136 kamikaze drones have been shot down over the Ukrainian ports of Reni and Izmail in the last three days alone.

Last night’s attack on Izmail resulted in one person dying in hospital from serious injuries while “destruction and fire were recorded in several settlements”, according to the regional governor Oleg Kiper.

The targets sit on the Danube River, which demarcates the border between Ukraine and Romania, and have become vital hubs through which to circumvent the Russian military blockade in the Black Sea erected after its withdrawal from the grain deal.

Romanian President Klaus Iohannis said on Tuesday (September 4) that the attacks had taken place “very, very close” to his country’s border. Bucharest has strongly condemned Russian attacks on Ukraine’s Danube infrastructure.

"A high level of mine danger remains in the de-occupied territory. Therefore, we ask local residents not to move along untested paths, not to visit forests, fields that were under occupation or where hostilities were taking place."

Shapps confirms the loss of a British tank in Ukraine

Grant Shapps has confirmed that a British Challenger 2 tank has been struck by Russian artillery near the frontline in Ukraine.

A video was published online yesterday morning showing what appeared to be a Challenger 2 on fire allegedly near the southern Zaporizhzhia frontline.

It was later confirmed in comments published by The Guardian that the vehicle was a Challenger 2 and that the crew members all survived.

Mr Shapps told Sky News this morning that the tank had been hit twice by Russian artillery.

He added that Britain would not be replacing the vehicle but that 13 more tanks remain in Ukraine’s possession.

It is the first ever recorded destruction of a Challenger 2 in its history, though defence sources suggested that the vehicle may not be beyond repair.

Shapps defends belated decision to ‘proscribe’ Wagner Group

Grant Shapps has defended the Conservative decision to proscribe the Wagner Group as a terrorist organisation more than six months after Labour issued calls for such a move.

Speaking to Radio 4, he added that while the UK does not particularly have a problem with the Wagner Group, he hoped the latest government would stop any “support” from growing.
