Fire billows from Russian military base in Pskov

Videos have captured the aftermath of an overnight blitz on a Russian airport.

Russian media reported this morning that a drone attack damaged the airport in Pskov, a city to the country's northwest, this morning.

The Tass news agency initially reported emergency service estimations that four Ilyushin 76 military transport planes were damaged by the blast, with two having burst "into flames".

But the Ria news agency later clarified that two of the aircraft were damaged in the blast, with the city's governor posting the dramatic footage on Telegram.

Regional governor Mikhail Vedernikov said officials had deployed military personnel to repel the attack.

He said: "The defence ministry is repelling a drone attack on Pskov's airport."

The governor, who claimed to have been at the scene of the attack, added that there were no reported victims.

He added in his Telegram post: "According to preliminary information, there are no victims."

Ukraine has not claimed responsibility for the attack, but officials rarely comment on explosions within Russia.

The country did, however, claim to have successfully repelled a series of Russian attacks on its territory.

Ukrainian officials said it shot sown Russian missiles and drones launched overnight.

General Valeriy Zaluzhnyi, commander-in-chief of Ukraine’s armed forces, said the military successfully destroyed 28 missiles and 15 drones.

But some Ukrainian nationals were killed and wounded as some attacks landed in the country.

Authorities reported that at least two people died and a further two wounded following an attack on Kyiv early this morning.

They also reported several injuries in the wider Kyiv region.

In a statement on Telegram, Serhiy Popko, the head of Kyiv’s military administration, said the attack was one of the most significant in recent months.

He said: “Kyiv has not experienced such a powerful attack since spring. The enemy launched a massive, combined attack using drones and missiles."

He added: “All in all, the air defence forces destroyed more than 20 enemy targets."
