Inflation-hit families have seen the price of food and non-alcoholic drinks rise by 14.9 per cent in a year.
But meals for MPs — on a basic salary of ￡86,584 — are up by just six per cent.
In the Members’ Dining Room, steak with mushrooms and chips costs ￡13.90.
However, a similar meal at a Harvester is ￡19.49.

Cod, chips and peas is ￡8.05 compared to ￡9 at the local chippy, where prices are up nine per cent.
In coffee shops across the country, hot drinks are up by 11 per cent but for MPs the rise is just three.
A cappuccino or latte is ￡1.10 compared with ￡4.10 at a branch of Costa.
John O’Connell, chief of the TaxPayers’ Alliance, said: “While Brits tighten their belts, Parliamentarians eat for cheap.

A Parliament spokesman said catering costs were down ￡1.1million in a year.
They said: “Services aren’t directly subsidised but they unavoidably come at a cost.”
