West Midlands Police confirmed they arrested a 33-year-old man on suspicion of two counts of murder.
He has since been sectioned under the Mental Health Act.
A spokesperson for the force said: "We're not looking for anyone else in connection with what happened, and from the information we have this is not being treated as terror-related.
"Our enquiries are continuing and anyone who can assist is asked to contact us via Live Chat on our website, or by calling 101, and quote log 854 of 3/9/23.
"We've created an online portal where people can upload any CCTV, video footage or to provide information that could help our investigations."
Homeowner Barry Dean, 71, previously explained how the car had crashed into the house while he was watching Match Of The Day.
The grandfather-of-two said: "You can imagine the thump as the car crashed into the house. I just wondered what had just happened. I was in shock.
"Luckily I wasn't injured but my walls have all crumbled down. He just came into the porch and lounge wall head on."
The retired builder added he is now left to rebuild the front of his house as well as the basement due to the extent of the smash.
"By the time I'd grabbed my keys and come outside the bloke had legged it. They caught him down the road," Barry added.
