IPOH: The Let’s Drum Palo event held in conjunction with the upcoming Visit Perak Year 2024 is expected to draw an audience of more than 2,000.

       According to Perak tourism committee chairman Loh Sze Yee, the show will feature over 80 performers and is among the "warm-up" programmes planned to get the mood going for Visit Perak Year.

       “For next year, we want to hold programmes on a bigger scale. But to do that, we need to test the waters first and get the public response.

       “From there, we can draft a bigger programme for next year. Perhaps now we target 2,000 attendees but maybe next year we can aim for 10,000,” he told a press conference at the Tourism Perak office in Jalan Teh Hawa here on Tuesday (Sept 5).

       Meanwhile, show representative Cayson Chong described it as an outdoor musical extravaganza.

       “It will be held at Jalan Bijeh Timah, a historic 100-year-old street. We aim to revive the lively ambiance of this street with the resounding beat of drums.

       “The lineup includes three major ethnic drumming styles, special performances by a Pipa player, handpan artist and wet plate photography master,” he said.

       Chong added that the event is scheduled to be held at 7pm on Saturday (Sept 9).

       “Thanks to our sponsors, all tickets to the event are free.

       “We have 1,200 seats available with 90% (already) booked.

       "There is still standing room for those without seats," he added.
