JOHOR BARU: Independent candidate Samsudin Mohamad Fauzi says representatives of 30 non-government organisations from Johor Baru will help him win the Pulai by-election on Sept 9.

       Samsudin, who is the Kuala Lumpur Consumer Safety Association (PKPKL) president, said the NGO Representative Coalition Committee (NRCC) will help in the last leg of campaigning.

       He said the NRCC is also expected to make a special announcement on their manifesto this Thursday (Sept 7) to woo voters to their side.

       “We want to create a third voice, free from any political affiliation; we are also closer to the people and have been actively going to the ground and meeting them for the past week.

       “The other candidates from two large political parties are too busy bickering until they forget the real mission here is to convince and provide solutions to the problems faced by the people.

       “Which is why we will introduce our plan to eradicate poverty this coming Thursday as part of our manifesto,” he said when met by reporters at LC Catering Restaurant here on Monday (Sept 4).

       Samsudin added their focus was on approaching the B40 group who are living in public housing and on the outskirts of town, which are the majority affected by the rising cost of living.

       “In general, all they want is a way to earn a better income from their families instead of being sent food aid every month.

       “So our manifesto will cover this issue so that those in need will no longer depend on the ‘fish’ that is given to them but will learn to fish on their own,” he said.

       Samsudin is in a three-cornered fight against Pakatan Harapan’s Suhaizan Kayat and Perikatan Nasional’s Zulkifli Jaafar.

       The Pulai seat has a total of 165,313 voters, comprising 44.18% Malay, 40.46% Chinese, 12.31% Indian, and 3.06% others.
