Police swoop to take children from Sara Sharif's grandfather's house in Pakistan

Sara Sharif's stepmother says they are 'willing to co-operate'

Sara Sharif's grandfather has revealed that five children who travelled from the UK to Pakistan with Sara's father have been taken from his house where they had been hiding.

According to neighbours, dozens of police raised the property in Pakistan on Monday.

Sara's father Urfan Sharif and his partner, Beinash Batool, fled the UK after the 10-year-old was found dead at their home in Woking on August 10.

Post-mortem tests declared Sara's death was likely to be "unnatural" after finding "multiple and extensive injuries".

Muhammed Sharif, Sara's grandfather, told the BBC he had been hiding the children in his home in the north-eastern city of Jhelum but would not say how long they had been there.

Police raided the property just before 4.30pm on Monday, according to neighbours.

Mr Sharif confirmed all five children were taken away. He accused officers of breaking the CCTV cameras and gates of his home during the search.

He had previously denied being in touch with his son or knowing where the family was. A manhunt for Sara's father and step-mother, as well as her uncle Faisal Malik, has been underway since they fled to Pakistan following her death.

A neighbour told the BBC: "Police officers including female officers raided the house. They broke the CCTV at the entrance and entered it. While inside, more officers arrived outside and stopped the traffic. They stopped everyone from filming on their mobile phones."

Muhammed Sharif said he had sent a message to his son urging him to surrender himself to police.

Mr Sharif, along with other family members, had accused the police of harassing them since the manhunt was launched.

He also accused the police of creating fake cases against them to add further pressure - something which they have denied.
