       KUWAIT CITY, Sept 12: An informed source in the Ministry of Electricity and Water revealed said the ministry has collected debts from expatriates and Gulf nationals, estimated at about 700,000 dinars, in seven days following the issuance of a decision by the Ministry of Interior that non-Kuwaitis leaving the country for whatever reason must settle all their outstanding dues owed to government institutions, reports Al-Qabas daily. The source said regarding the possibility of expatriates benefiting from the deduction system that has been applied to citizens for years, MEW has not excluded any expatriate – until now – from such a payment system and they are allowed to pay in installments when the bill amount is big.

       The ministry added, “If there are cases that require applying the deduction, a committee will be formed to study the issue, with the requirement that a citizen sign the deduction decision so that the expatriate can benefit from this advantage that makes it easier for him to pay the amount in installments that are determined by the concerned authority.”

       Regarding whether there are large amounts that require the deduction to be applied to these categories, the source pointed out that, “Some citizens of the Gulf Cooperation Council countries have debts ranging between two thousand and four thousand dinars to the Ministry of Electricity and Water as dues for the services provided.” The source concluded saying that the ministry is currently planning to link bill payment systems with a number of other entities in the country, including banks, the Public Authority for Manpower, and the Ministry of Social Affairs, so that payment of dues will be a condition for completing transactions related to those entities.”
