MRI scans will now be used to scan migrants landing on Britain’s shores by small boat in a bid to stop men posing as children.

New measures designed to stop illegal migration will grant the use of scientific age assessments that can stop adults from making fake claims to be kids.

Knees and collar bones could be scanned with the device while teeth, hands and wrists could be X-rayed.

And failing to show ID or pass over phones could count against their asylum claims.

The Home Secretary will have the power to decide how long to detain people before deportation.

It comes after more than 800 migrants crossed the English Channel in small boats over the weekend, according to the Home Office.

On Saturday, seven boats carrying 425 people made the crossing, while six boats carrying 389 arrived on Sunday.

A Home Office spokesman said: "The unacceptable number of people risking their lives by making these dangerous crossings is placing an unprecedented strain on our asylum system.

"Our priority is to stop the boats, and our Small Boats Operational Command is working alongside our French partners and other agencies to disrupt the people smugglers."

Most of the public are dissatisfied with the government’s handling of immigration.

Roughly 66 per cent of people polled as unhappy while only 12 per cent were satisfied, showed a new survey conducted by Ipsos Mori.

The top reason for the dissatisfaction was failure to stop Channel crossings, the poll showed.

British Future director Sunder -Katwala said: "The Government’s approach to immigration is disappointing everyone.

"Liberals think it is inhumane, while hardliners think it isn’t achieving what has been promised."
