Prince Harry was issued a bittersweet final birthday message from his grandmother and was too late to receive one last year.
Last week marked the one-year anniversary of the late Queen Elizabeth II’s death. Britain’s longest-ever reigning monarch passed away at the age of 96, with King Charles acceding to the throne.
Under a week later, Prince Harry turned 38. That meant the Duke of Sussex, now 39, was never able to receive a birthday message from his beloved granny last year.
In fact, the last public message issued to Harry from the Royal Family under the late Queen’s reign came back in 2021.
In a post on Twitter, the palace marked the occasion by sharing a message for Prince Harry with a number of photos of the Duke at various events.

It read: “Wishing The Duke of Sussex a happy birthday today!”
One picture shows Harry in Botswana during a 2019 visit. Another image shows Harry at the Invictus Games in 2018.
Prince Harry and the late Queen were said to share a special bond, with Harry describing the monarch as a “guiding compass”.
Following her passing, Harry’s heartfelt tribute to his beloved grandmother read: "In celebrating the life of my grandmother, Her Majesty The Queen – and in mourning her loss – we are all reminded of the guiding compass she was to so many in her commitment to service and duty.

“Let us echo the words she spoke after the passing of her husband, Prince Philip, words which can bring comfort to all of us now:
"Life, of course, consists of final partings as well as first meetings.”
Last week, Harry visited St George's Chapel in Windsor, the final resting place of Queen Elizabeth II and her husband Prince Phillip, to pay his respects.
