A teenager was fatally shot Monday afternoon in the Anacostia neighborhood of Southeast Washington, according to D.C. police.
The shooting occurred about 3:45 p.m. in the 2300 block of Green Street SE, a residential area. A police spokesman said the male victim appeared to be between 16 and 18 years old.

Police said the victim was pronounced dead at the scene. No other details were immediately available. Authorities were working to confirm his name and precise age in the hours after the shooting.
The slaying brings to 198 the number of people killed in D.C. this year, up about 30 percent compared with this time last year.
D.C. police said they are also investigating a separate fatal shooting that occurred Sunday night in the Washington Highlands neighborhood of Southeast Washington.
Police said Vashawn Jones, 22, of Southeast Washington was shot about 8:30 p.m. in the 4200 block of Third Street SE. He died at a hospital, they said.
