The victim was allegedly killed during a row while a group of friends played the sick Blue Whale suicide challenge in remote woodland.

A British man has been stabbed to death in Portugal

Sources say the pair were with several British people who had been staying at an “off-grid living community” in the area and were due to fly back to the UK in about a week’s time.

The unnamed 35-year-old victim's body was found in woodland between the localities of Poco Negro and Soalheira on Sunday.

Local reports say the knife attack happened during a fight while a group of friends were playing the notorious Blue Whale suicide game.

Cops have arrested another British man, 26, on suspicion of murder after he is understood to have handed himself in and confessed.

It is reported friends of the victim attended a private party on Saturday night near the area where the victim's body was found before heading to the remote woodland spot.

Cops were then led to the scene by the group after they raised the alarm at around 6.30am.

The Brit victim's body had multiple stab wounds.

According to reports, the suspect went to a police station around a 15-minute drive from the scene to tell officers what had happened.

A GNR (National Republican Guard) source told local press: “He was accompanied by two other people who had witnessed the incident.”

The knife he allegedly used is said to have been recovered at the scene.

Detectives with Portugal’s Policia Judiciaria spent yesterday questioning at least three men and two women, including the Brit described as the chief suspect.

The people questioned by police, including the suspect, are understood to be part of a group of British and Dutch nationals living in a commune near the crime scene.

The community, identified by local sources as Libelinha Venture, is based on land purchased by an Oxford public school-educated nature lover and his partner in May 2017 just before wildfires devastated the region.

Neither Xavier Hancock or his Madrid-born partner Arantxa Atauri, who describe online how they purchased a plot of land near Pedrogao Grande six years ago to launch Libelinha Venture “to start their journey towards a sustainable lifestyle,” could be reached for comment today.

There is no suggestion whatsoever they had any involvement in the events leading up to the weekend stabbing.

A well-placed Policia Judiciaria source said: “The suspected author of the crime has been arrested. The circumstances including the possible motive are still under investigation.

“Both the detainee and the man arrested on suspicion of killing him are British.”

FOR KIDS: How to say no

It can sometimes be hard to stand up to your friends, so Childline offers the following tips on how to say no:

       1) Say it with confidence:

Be assertive. It’s your choice and you don’t have to do something which makes you feel unsafe or uncomfortable.

       2) Try not to judge them:

By respecting their choices, they should respect yours.

       3) Spend time with friends who can say ‘no’:

It takes confidence and courage to say no to your friends. Spend time with other friends who also aren’t taking part.

       4) Suggest something else to do:

If you don’t feel comfortable doing what your friends are doing, suggest something else to do.

Mr Hancock, who describes himself as a digital creator on social media, has spoken about “falling in love” with the forest valley near the picturesque village of Figuero dos Vinhos, where he and his partner created their community in a forest valley.

He has organised fundraising campaigns online to plant over 6,000 trees, shrubs and bushes on his land and subsequently keep them alive during a drought in the area.

Volunteers wanting to take part in the family-run project focusing on land regeneration and reforestation are offered ‘Glamping’ accommodation on site as well as food.

A write-up on one online site offering volunteers the chance to get involved, thought to have been drafted by Xavier and his partner, says: “We are trying to create something that is becoming rare in this day and age.

“The unique opportunity to disconnect, while enjoying life by living simply surrounded by nature, in a remote enchanting forest valley.

“We are looking for volunteers who will join us for a month or more, who bring good energy to the land and community, who take pleasure in giving and are willing to get involved in a wide range of projects to help create the vision.”

The write-up adds that accommodation would be in a shared tepee or tent for those preferring more privacy.

       You're Not Alone

EVERY 90 minutes in the UK a life is lost to suicide.

It doesn't discriminate, touching the lives of people in every corner of society - from the homeless and unemployed to builders and doctors, reality stars and footballers.

It's the biggest killer of people under the age of 35, more deadly than cancer and car crashes.

And men are three times more likely to take their own life than women.

Yet it's rarely spoken of, a taboo that threatens to continue its deadly rampage unless we all stop and take notice, now.

That is why The Sun launched the You're Not Alone campaign.

The aim is that by sharing practical advice, raising awareness and breaking down the barriers people face when talking about their mental health, we can all do our bit to help save lives.

Let's all vow to ask for help when we need it, and listen out for others... You're Not Alone.

If you, or anyone you know, needs help dealing with mental health problems, the following organisations provide support:
