A 16-year-old boy was fatally shot in the Fort Washington area Monday evening, marking the sixth person killed since the start of October, according to Prince George’s County police.

Officers responded about 5:40 p.m. to the 8300 block of Indian Head Highway for a reported shooting. They found Elijah Fletcher, of Fort Washington, with gunshot wounds inside a building, police said. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators are working to determine a motive and suspects, police said.

Fletcher is the second teenager killed this month. Police said 18-year-old Kenyon Valentine, of Alexandria, was fatally shot in the Oxon Hill area Friday.

As of Monday, Prince George’s County police have investigated 76 homicides this year, compared to 78 homicides this time last year, according to county data as of Oct. 9.

Efforts to reach relatives of Fletcher and Valentine on Tuesday afternoon were unsuccessful.
