       A man was shot and critically wounded Monday night in Southeast Washington, the D.C. police said.

       The man was unconscious and was not breathing after being shot about 9:20 p.m. in the 1300 block of Valley Place SE, said Sgt. Adrian Channer, a D.C. police spokesman.

       It was not clear whether he was taken to a hospital.

       No information was immediately available about a suspect or motive.
