SEREMBAN: Police have detained a 25-year-old suspect for allegedly causing injury to his 67-year-old mother who adopted him when he was only 10-days-old.

       Seremban police chief Asst Comm Arifai Tarawe said the suspect was detained in a residential area in Gombak around 1pm on Thursday (Nov 30).

       "On Nov 28, the victim had lodged a report claiming that the suspect had caused her injury during an argument at their home here on Nov 11.

       "She claimed that the argument started after the suspect told her to transfer the title of her house to him and she refused," he said in a statement.

       The suspect, upset with the victim's decision, picked up an object and threw it at the victim.

       ACP Arifai said the object struck the victim in the left eye which caused her to be hospitalised for 14 days.

       The suspect then drove off in the victim's car.

       ACP Arifai said checks showed the suspect had three previous police records, including two for drug abuse.

       "We have obtained a four-day order to remand the suspect," he said.

       The case is being investigated under Section 324 of the Penal Code which carries a jail term of up to 10 years or a fine or whipping or any of two such punishments.
