Rishi Sunak facing pressure over Rwanda immigration policy
Rishi Sunak's emergency Rwanda legislation does not go far enough, lawyers convened by Tory Brexiteers have said.
The European Research Group's (ERG) so-called "star chamber" has been going through the Bill with a fine-tooth comb ahead of a crunch vote tomorrow.
The lawyers, led by veteran Conservative MP Sir Bill Cash, said today: "The Bill overall provides a partial and incomplete solution to the problem of legal challenges in the UK courts being used as stratagems to delay or defeat the removal of illegal migrants to Rwanda.
"The Prime Minister may well be right when he claims that this is the 'toughest piece of migration legislation ever put forward by a UK Government', but we do not believe that it goes far enough to deliver the policy as intended.
"Resolving, comprehensively, the issues raised by this analysis would require very significant amendments, some of which would potentially be outside the current title’s scope, and the final Bill would look very different."

Their findings were presented at a meeting of the ERG and other groups on the Conservative right in Parliament.
There was no decision on how the groups should vote on Tuesday, although the ERG is set to have a further meeting this evening.
ERG chairman Mark Francois called on the Prime Minister to "pull the Bill" because it has "so many holes in it".
He said: "The Government would be best advised to pull the Bill and come up with a revised version that works better than this one which has so many holes in it ."
It comes as Mr Sunak faces the most perilous week of his premiership so far with two warring Tory factions.
The One Nation caucus of centrist Conservatives is due to release a statement outlining its position this evening.
The Prime Minister has sought to find a middle ground in response to the Supreme Court ruling that his plan to send asylum seekers who arrive in the UK on small boats is unlawful.

His Bill allows ministers to disapply the Human Rights Act, but does not go as far as overriding the European Convention on Human Rights.
But some on the right of the Conservative Party believe more radical measures are needed to override international law.
A summary of the Government's legal position on the Bill, published today, said it an "exceptionally narrow route" for migrants to bring legal challenges against their deportation.
