Crippled woman dies in KK fire

       KOTA KINABALU: A crippled woman was killed in a fire that also saw four others including a pregnant mother hurt on Thursday night (Dec 21).

       The blaze, which started at about 11pm, also razed 12 houses at Kalansanan, Inanam near here.

       Firefighters found the charred remains of Idam Hamid, in her 50s, after they managed to put out the fire.

       Fire and Rescue Department Kota Kinabalu Zone chief Misran Bisara said they were alerted of the incident at 11.10pm, adding that a team of 31 firemen from the Lintas and Kota Kinabalu stations were then rushed to the scene.

       “On reaching the location, we found the fire was at its peak,” he said, when contacted on Friday (Dec 22).

       “The fire was brought under control at 1.16am. We later found the victim’s charred remains,” he added.

       He said the other victims comprised three people aged between 16 and 20, adding the fourth victim was a pregnant woman aged 23 who had passed out in the incident.

       “They were rushed to the hospital for treatment.

       "The blaze had completely destroyed 12 houses which were occupied by 14 families,” Misran said.

       He added a probe is on-going to ascertain the cause of the fire as well as losses.

       Meanwhile, Kota Kinabalu City Hall enforcement director Abdul Mukti Muchlish said the victims will be temporarily placed at the Likas multipurpose hall.
