Susan Hall takes aim at Sadiq Khan with ULEZ comment
A leading motorist organisation has demanded that Sadiq Khan ditches his ULEZ charge for the entire Christmas period - not just on the big day.
The Alliance of British Drivers (ABD) has branded the Labour London Mayor "Scrooge" after he only lifted the daily ￡12.50 charge for Christmas Day, the day least people travel. ABD's call follows warnings by Conservative London Mayor candidate Susan Hall, who has claimed that Khan's measures will keep many families apart during the festive period.
There are concerns that those who have to drive in from outside London in particular will be hit by tax on vehicles imposed by the leftwing mayor.
Bob Bull, Chairman of the Alliance of British Drivers, said: “December is always the busiest month for drivers. They will be visiting family and friends and looking to take advantage of the many sales, especially on Boxing Day."

He added: "The Mayor of London’s mistreatment of the poorest in society makes Scrooge look generous. He should do the right thing for once and scrap it for the whole of the Christmas period.”
It has been estimated by the RAC that motorists will make 21 million trips over the Christmas period with 60 per cent of this travel taking place in the days leading up to Christmas - and most of the rest will be in the days after.
Sadiq Khan’s ULEZ tax on some of the poorest people both inside and outside of London, could punish those looking to celebrate Christmas with their loved ones. Many people travel a few days before Christmas and stay a day or two afterwards to avoid traffic jams and make the most of their time off of work – particularly as Christmas falls on a Monday this year.

It has been reported that the Mayor’s ULEZ tax on the poor will be disastrous for those looking to take advantage of the Boxing Day sales. It is estimated that more than ￡3bn will be spent on Boxing Day by those looking to take advantage of the available bargains.
However, many in London will make the decision that the sales are not worth the trouble of paying for ULEZ and will be forced to stay at home instead.
ABD believes that short-sighted policy decisions like ULEZ are leading to the death of high streets across the capital and the closure of many well-known shops. It comes as ULEZ is set to become a major issue next year with the London Mayoral election.

Mr Khan has said that while the ULEZ expansion to outer London was "a difficult decision" he insisted "it is the right thing to do".
He said: "Just like drinking clean water is a right, breathing clean air is a right.”
