KOTA KINABALU: Sabah has allocated RM56.75mil for the development of non-Muslim religious bodies, mission schools, private and vernacular schools in the state for 2024.

Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor hopes this allocation can help in their operational costs and other necessities.

He said this allocation is given in line with the government’s commitment to take care of the welfare of all regardless of race and religion in a fair and just manner.

“The allocation has slightly increased for 2024, compared to this year’s RM54.05mil funding,” he said at the Anglican Christmas Open House here, Saturday (Dec 30).

Hajiji’s speech was delivered by his assistant minister Datuk Abidin Madingkir.

He said the state government appreciates the importance of every festival and celebration for the unity of the people in Sabah.

“This Christmas celebration shows how both the federal and state government cares for the people, and how it emphasises on unity and harmony among the mutli-ethnic and multi-racial community,” he said.

This is also why agendas that promote unity are always given a focus, because with a united community, the government can remain in peace and harmony, said Hajiji.

Hajiji then added that a nation with peace and harmony, stable politics and good economic activities helps lure foreign investments.

He said countries with citizens that fight amongst each other - especially over religious issues - are facing war and this puts a stop to all economic and social development.

“We do not want this to happen in our country,” said Hajiji.

Speaking about the Christmas celebration, he said the Sabah Anglican church has helped a lot in nation building and in promoting unity amongst the people.

He said many leaders and icons of various fields have also been created from the Anglican church.

“I hope the cooperation we have with the Anglican church will continue for the benefit of Sabahans, for nation building, for a harmonious community and for a peaceful state,” Hajiji added.
