KUALA LUMPUR: A law should be introduced to ensure that a government remains in power for its full five-year term, suggests Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

The Deputy Prime Minister said that if a party or a coalition manages to form a government and receives consent of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, then it should remain in power until the end of its term.

"Or else we will experience similar incidents like before and it will not be good for the country," he said at a press conference at a hotel here on Saturday (Jan 13).

"We do not want to see what happened previously, where there are changes of three prime ministers in a single term," said Ahmad Zahid, who is also Barisan Nasional chairman.

"This will affect the people and economic growth will be disrupted. On top of that, the country was experiencing the Covid-19 pandemic and it was a bitter experience for us," he added.

On Jan 9, Anwar's political secretary Datuk Azman Abidin called on authorities to probe the allegation.

The accusations were from a blog, alleging that a Perikatan leader had earmarked RM1bil to be used as bribes to sway government MPs.

Bersatu, however, has refuted these claims.
