       MULTIPLE snow and ice warnings are in place across the UK as Brits brace for further snowfall and freezing temperatures.

       Here we take a look at where it has snowed, whether the snow will settle, and where it snows most in the UK.

       The UK is now in the grip of a cold plunge of Artic air Where has it snowed in the UK?

       In January 2024, the Met Office warned "disruptive" snow will make it "bitterly cold" for Brits.

       According to the Met Office: ‘’The UK is now in the grip of a cold plunge of Arctic air which has moved in from the north across the whole of the country.’’

       A yellow weather warning for snow and ice is in place across Scotland, much of northern England, and parts of North Wales until midnight.

       The warnings continue across large swathes of the northern half of the country until Thursday.

       Much of the country will be dusted with frost or blanketed with snow and ice - sparking misery on the roads and railways.

       Drivers have been warned of difficult driving conditions, with authorities warning motorists to plan ahead, while some rural communities have been warned they could be temporarily cut off.

       Schools across the UK were also forced to close once more today (January 16) due to heavy snow and plummeting temperatures.

       Here we take a look at where it has snowed in the UK.

       National Highways has put in place a severe weather alert for snow affecting the North West today (Tuesday, January 16).

       Photos show Brits braving the freezing temperatures - with snow blanketing much of Manchester.

       Today saw an icy start with snow showers in places.

       Tonight, a mix of rain, sleet, and snow is predicted, with further travel disruption likely.

       Two schools in Greater Manchester have also been forced to close today as a result of "severe weather conditions" and "struggle to staff school".

       A yellow snow and ice warning is also in force for Liverpool.

       Resident's woke up to snow this morning, with further snowfall developing throughout the day.

       Fresh snow covered the roads and footpaths during snowfall including Lee Park.

       Schools in Merseyside sent out warnings to parents not to bring their children in this morning following the freezing temperatures.

       Snow and ice warnings are currently in place for Scotland - with two more days of freezing alerts in place.

       As a result, schools across, Aberdeenshire, Moray and Shetland have been forced to close due to snow.

       Will the snow settle?

       Sadly for some, the snow does not always settle.

       Images being shared on various social media platforms show that the snow has settled in a number of places across the UK.

       Tonight, frequent snow showers are predicted to continue in northern Scotland and Northern Ireland.

       Clear skies are expected elsewhere with a widespread severe frost.

       It is important to note that sleet and snow clearing can lead to an increased ice risk.

       Where does it snow most in the UK?

       According to the Met Office, Scotland sees the most snow in the UK.

       Data has revealed snow or sleet falls on 38.1 days on average.

       The weather station which recorded the most snowfall in the UK was the Cairngorm Chairlift, with snow falling on 76.2 days throughout the year (based on 1981-2010 averages).

       Aside from Scotland, the deepest snow ever recorded in an inhabited area of the UK was near Ruthin - which is located in North Wales.

       During March 1947 a snow depth of 1.65 metres was recorded.
