KOTA KINABALU: A man and a woman in their 40s were found dead after being locked in a tiny storeroom at an abandoned condominium project site near here, Wednesday (Jan 17).

       Sabah Fire and Rescue Department assistant director of operations said the duo were locked in a carbon dioxide gas cylinder storage room and were found unconscious when firemen arrived.

       "We received an emergency call about the incident at 10.22am, and a team was sent to respond," he said in a statement.

       It was unclear what the duo were doing in that room and what exactly happened, he said.

       The carbon dioxide cylinders were linked to the automated fire extinguishing system of the building.

       Hamsa said the bodies of the two victims were handed over to the police for further action after the door was broken down.

       "Our operations on-site ended at 11.57am after clearing the area of hazardous elements," he said.

       It was learnt that the two victims were inside the storeroom while another person was outside. This other person was said to be the one who called for emergency assistance.

       Kota Kinabalu OCPD Asst Comm Mohd Zaidi Abdullah said they were still gathering details of the case.
