JOHOR BARU: Three men are on remand for seven days from Friday (Jan 19) to assist the police investigation of a 'procurement cartel' involving construction work at a Royal Malaysian Navy Camp worth more than RM9mil.

Magistrate Nurmadiana Mamat issued the order, which expires on Jan 25, against the three men, aged between 28 and 47, for investigation under Section 18 of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Act 2009.

The three men, dressed in the MACC lock-up shirts, arrived at the court here at about 9.40am accompanied by MACC officers.

On Thursday, three men believed to be the masterminds of the 'procurement cartel' were arrested by the Johor MACC at the agency's office at about 6pm.

It is understood that the arrests were made on charges of false claims and being masterminds of the 'procurement cartel' involving 13 supplier companies managing construction works at the camp.

They were said to have received full payments even though the construction was not fully completed.
