Nigel Farage claimed to have suffered “foul-mouthed abuse” at the hands of civil servants during a fiery rant in which he declared: “We need to drain the swamp.”
Mr Farage channelled friend and ally Donald Trump as he took aim at Whitehall, which he claimed had been “utterly politicised” by former Labour Prime Minister Tony Blair in the 1990s.
The former Brexit Party leader was commenting on reports, carried in the Daily Telegraph, that a so-called “word cloud” had been produced by the civil service, with the most popular responses being “change of government” and “general election”.
One Conservative Party insider suggested the incident raised “huge questions” about impartiality.
Speaking on GB News, Mr Farage said: “If you walk with me one morning at half past eight down Whitehall, as the civil servants that still work in offices are coming in, you will see a tirade of foul-mouthed abuse against me that I wouldn’t even see at a left-wing student union.

“You begin to understand who the civil service are. We need to drain the swamp in this country.
He continued: “I’m not pretending this is an easy battle. Tony Blair utterly politicised the whole thing two decades ago.
“We face a gargantuan problem to get our country back on track, and right now, no one is even trying.”
Cabinet Officer minister John Glen this week announced plans to tighten up Civil Service impartiality.

Suggesting Whitehall needed to be better equipped to move those failing to do their jobs properly, he explained: “In some cases, consistently underperforming staff can languish in roles or move between departments without properly addressing the reasons for poor performance.
“In the worst cases, managers can too often feel unable to remove consistently poor performers.
"This is a problem that needs a solution.”
Mr Glen also advocated a “more skilled” Civil Service, and plans to ensure they are “better rewarded” to make this happen.
