The Royal Grenada Police Force today identified the couple as Mr and Mrs Foster, two retirees who were holidaying on the island with other family members.
Their bodies were found on Paradise Beach in the village of L’Esterre.
Mr Foster was pronounced dead at the scene, while Mrs Foster was rushed to the nearby Princess Royal Hospital where she was examined and also pronounced dead.
Police officer Corporal Ardell Lewis told BBC News: "The basic facts seem to suggest the man may have suffered a heart attack and the lady may have gone to his assistance, and she probably would have drowned."
