TANGKAK: Quick action by the police helps rescue a mentally unstable youth from making more trouble at Masjid Jamek Bandar Tangkak.

Tangkak deputy OCPD Deputy Supt Idris Abdul Rahman said police received public information about the presence of an 18-year-old local youth acting aggressively inside the mosque at around 10.30pm on Sunday (March 3) night.

“The suspect is believed to have mental issues. Based on the information, police immediately deployed a patrol car to the location before the situation escalated.

“When our team arrived at the scene, a local man was spotted at the praying area acting uncontrollably,” he said in a statement on Monday (March 4).

DSP Idris added police, together with members of the mosque congregation, were able to persuade the man to leave the premises and brought him to Tangkak police station for questioning.

“Early investigation found the young man had been suffering from depression and talking to himself for the past three days prior to the incident.

“We were able to contact the victim’s family, who lived not far from the police station and has brought him to Tangkak Hospital for treatment,” he said.
