Disruption to MBike system clogging up motorcycle zones at JB-Singapore border

JOHOR BARU: A disruption to the MBike system is causing congestion for motorcyclists travelling between Malaysia and Singapore at both Bangunan Sultan Iskandar (BSI) and Sultan Abu Bakar Complex (KSAB) Customs, Immigration and Quarantine (CIQs).

Immigration director-general Datuk Ruslin Jusoh said the department was aware of the unusual congestion, which took place at the motorcycle zone in BSI and KSAB.

“This congestion occurred due to a disruption of the MBike system at inspection zone entry and exit routes.

“The disruption is caused by system configuration work implemented by a newly-appointed company starting Feb 29,” he said in a statement on Tuesday (March 5).

Rusli added that the department and the company were taking drastic measures to overcome these disturbances, which would be resolved in the near future.

He said to ease congestion, the department has activated manual inspection until the system interruption is resolved.

“The department is committed to doing its best until the MBike system can be restored as soon as possible,” he added.

Rusli also denied allegations, which have gone viral on social media, that the termination of the previous company handling MBike was due to “instructions” coming from a higher authority.

“The company's contract has expired (and) a new operating company has been appointed in accordance with the department’s financial procedures.

"We call upon the public not to speculate as it may cause confusion,” he added.
