KOTA BHARU: The Kelantan State Assembly has passed a motion to re-enact the 16 provisions in the state's Syariah Criminal Code (I) Enactment 2019 that was nullified by the Federal Court.

       The motion, presented by Melor assemblyman Wan Rohimi Wan Daud on Wednesday (March 6), was agreed upon by all assemblymen, including two Opposition lawmakers from Pakatan Harapan and Umno.

       Speaker Datuk Mohd Amar Abdullah, when approving the motion, said that it fulfilled the three criteria to be accepted for debate as it was urgent, a matter of public interest, and must be expedited.

       Meanwhile, Mohd Asri Mat Daud, the state exco member in charge of Islamic affairs, was quoted as saying by Sinar Harian that he would present the matter concerning the 16 nullified provisions in a special committee.

       The special committee will discuss all the provisions before they are presented to be re-enacted.

       "We will bring this again to the state legislative assembly. We are confident it can be brought up to Tuanku Sultan (Sultan Muhammad V) once everything concludes," he told Sinar Harian.

       Asri, however, did not specify a timeline but said it could be held after Hari Raya Aidilftri.
