PETALING JAYA: Over 1,300 litres of contraband alcohol was found in a hidden room located in the back of a shop in Bandar Saujana Putra here.

Customs Department central zone assistant director-general Norlela Ismail said that a raid was conducted on a licensed shop on March 14.

"The raiding party uncovered a hidden room on the premises. Some of the items found had tax stamps that appeared to be fake.

"Officers also found some unused tax stamps which we also believe are counterfeits," she said at a press conference at Customs KLIA headquarters on Monday (April 1).

She said a total of 1,362.27 litres of alcohol were seized, which had RM86,200 in unpaid duties.

"A local man who works at the shop was also arrested," she said.

In an unrelated case, a separate raid at a warehouse in Westport, Port Klang on March 19, revealed 323,278kg of galvanised steel coils with unpaid taxes.

"Checks showed that the warehouse was used to store imported metal from a country in East Asia," she said, adding that import documents showed an attempt to evade duties and taxes.

It is estimated that the seized items are worth RM1,366,100 with import and anti-dumping duties amounting to RM204,900 and RM711,700 respectively.
