PETALING JAYA: Perikatan Nasional is confident of wresting the Kuala Kubu Baharu seat, which has been held by DAP since 2013, from Pakatan Harapan in the coming by-election.

       Perikatan youth leader Mohamed Sukri Omar said the confidence stems from the composition of the Malay voters in the constituency, which is at 51%.

       He said Perikatan is also expected to get the support of the youth, especially the Undi18 group, Mohamed Sukri said in a statement Monday (April 1).

       "It was evident from the last state election in Selangor, where DAP received only an additional 761 votes while Perikatan received an increase of 7,437 votes.

       "The additional votes are a clear indication that the people are with Perikatan," he said.

       Mohamed Sukri added that even though the Election Commission (EC) had yet to fix a date for the by-election, Perikatan was ready to contest.

       The Kuala Kubu Baharu seat became vacant after the passing of its assemblyman Lee Kee Hiong on March 21.

       Kee won the seat by a majority of 4,119 votes in the last state election, defeating Perikatan's Teoh Kien Hong.

       Meanwhile, Selangor DAP secretary Ng Sze Han told Sinar Harian that the replacement for Lee has not been picked yet for now.

       "There hasn't been any specific discussion on the matter as all efforts were focused on Lee's funeral and helping her family," said Ng.
