KOTA KINABALU: The Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) supreme council has met to brainstorm on the details of a proposal to work with Sabah STAR in the next state election, the latest September next year.

       PBS deputy president Datuk Seri Dr Joachim Gunsalam(pic) said the meeting also saw members briefed on latest PBS-Sabah STAR collaborations.

       “We are looking at signing a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Sabah STAR,” he said in a statement on Tuesday (April 2), but did not indicate when.

       “We will hand over our findings and decisions to the president (Datuk Seri Dr Maximus Ongkili) later on,” Joachim said.

       Also present were deputy presidents Datuk Jahid Jahim and Datuk Seri Yee Moh Chai; secretary-general Datuk Julita Majungki, vice presidents Datuk Haji Ruslan Muharam, Datuk Hendrus Anding, Datuk Johnny Mositun, Datuk Peter Mak, Datuk Daniel Kinsik and Murshid Mohd Rais; treasurer Datuk Lu Kim Yun; and information chief Datuk Joniston Bangkuai.

       In December, PBS and Sabah STAR said in a joint statement that they expected to sign an agreement to seal their cooperation before Chinese New Year this year, although this did not materialise.

       A special committee set up to frame the scope of the working relationship held its first meeting on Dec 13.

       Sabah STAR president Datuk Seri Dr Jeffrey Kitingan had proposed working with PBS in July last year, with subsequent informal meetings taking place between leaders of both parties.

       PBS later responded to the possibility in September, with both parties agreeing to start official discussions in November.

       Both local parties are members of the ruling Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) coalition.
