A child has been killed and two more seriously injured after a pupil unleashed bullets at a school in Finland.
Police made a heartbreaking announcement after the shooting erupted early on Tuesday morning in Vantaa, a city 10 miles north of Helsinki, confirming the youngster's death.
Cops swarmed Viertola Elementary School to reports that gunshots had been fired at around 9am local time (7am GMT).
Warning locals to avoid the area, police managed to arrest a child who had gone on the run after the arrival of officers at the school. The arrest was made in a "calm manner", cops added, and the firearm was seized from the child.
As a result of the police operation, the school was placed on lockdown.
Alongside the tragic loss of the 12-year-old pupil, it was confirmed two other 12-year-olds were also seriously injured, police said.
