The freeze on the income tax allowance in April 2021 held it at £12,570 and it will stay there for four years.
If it had increased in line with inflation it would be worth £15,990 in 2028. But freezing it means a total of 9.3million pensioners will become taxpayers.

By 2027-28, 1.6 million more pensioners will be paying income tax compared to if the personal allowance had risen with inflation.
Government figures show 12.7 million Britons get the state pension. The Institute for Fiscal Studies said 8.5 million people over 65 pay income tax, up from 7.7million in 2021 when the freeze began.
Liberal Democrat MP Sarah Olney said: “Older people who worked hard and contributed all their lives are being clobbered with unfair tax hikes.”
