JOHOR BARU: Some 1,730 cops here will hit the ground to ensure a safe festivity for all this Hari Raya celebration.

Johor police chief Comm M. Kumar said the personnel would be assigned to strategic locations, accident-prone areas, and gateways during the Hari Raya Ops Selamat.

The six-day operation would begin tomorrow, he said.

“Policemen will be placed in strategic areas throughout Johor, including 48 hotspots for accidents and 31 blackspots for fatal accidents.

“We will also assign our personnel at international entry and exit points, including the Bangunan Sultan Iskandar and Sultan Abu Bakar Complex, as well as the Senai International Airport and ferry terminals, as we are expecting to see a high number of travellers,” he added.

Kumar told reporters this at the road safety advocation programme at Kempas toll plaza here yesterday.

Meanwhile, Johor works, transportation, infrastructure and communication committee chairman Mohamad Fazli Mohamad Salleh said the emergency lane at certain stretches of the North-South Expressway would be opened up to ease traffic congestion.
