KOTA KINABALU: Leaders who play up religious and racial sentiments are the cause of disunity in the country, says a Sabah Umno leader.

       State Umno information chief Datuk Suhaimi Nasir said the actions of these leaders should be condemned as they are causing chaos in a diverse community.

       “There are some leaders who try to play up sensitive issues such as these and they are the types of leaders that cause fights among races in this country,” he said in a statement after an Iftar Ramadan programme in Sandakan on Thursday (April 4).

       He said there would be no fights among the people in the community if leaders didn't break the unity that is shared

       "For matters relating to race, we as Sabahans must work hard to protect the harmony we enjoy in this state,” he said.

       He said Umno has its own supporters, as do other parties.

       “However, to preserve the harmony among races, we should put our party aside,” said Suhaimi.

       Earlier in the event, he urged all Umno Libaran members and machinery to unite and help each other in reaching out to as many grassroots supporters and young voters in Libaran as possible.

       He also called upon all in Libaran to foster closer relations regardless of race and religion.
