JOHOR BARU: The remand period for the two policemen who allegedly extorted money from a man at the Bangunan Sultan Iskandar (BSI) Customs, Immigration, and Quarantine (CIQ) here has ended.

Johor Baru South deputy OCPD Supt Lim Jit Huey said that the investigation paper for the case would be handed over to the Deputy Public Prosecutor soon for further action.

“The remand period for both suspects ended on Monday (April 8), and they will be given police bail,” he said in a statement here on Tuesday (April 9).

The two policemen, aged 32 and 33, were arrested last Friday (April 5) for allegedly extorting money from a 29-year-old man.

They were initially placed under a three-day-remand starting from Saturday (April 6). The remand period was later extended for another day until Tuesday.

Last Friday (April 5), Johor MCA youth chief Heng Zhi Li organised a press conference where a man claimed that two policemen extorted money from him at the BSI when he was on his way home from work in Singapore.

The victim, who only wanted to be known as Lim, said that the policemen extorted RM2,000 from him to avoid arrest and detention.
