As tourists and travellers are becoming increasingly aware of their environmental footprint, sleeper trains are seeing a resurgence across Europe.

One company, the travel start-up European Sleeper, recently extended one of its "Good Night Train" routes to allow its customers to undertake a 446-mile long overnight trip through some of the most beautiful European capitals.

From March 25, European Sleeper started offering tickets for trains departing from Brussels, in Belgium, and travelling all the way to the Czech capital Prague.

The train, taking more than 15 hours to reach its last destination, includes stops in Amsterdam, in the Netherlands and Germany's capital Berlin.

As it crosses Germany, the train also stops in Dresden, the national park of Saxon Switzerland and the Elbe Valley.

European Sleeper, which launched the Brussels-Berlin route in May 2023, offers three ways to travel - each coming with different levels of comfort, privacy and price.

Normal seats, which if booked now for a trip in late May come at around £59 (€69) each, come in compartments accommodating six people.

Couchettes, described as "ideal for small groups and families", come in rooms with either five or six beds, and travellers are given the choice of booking just one couchette - for around £76 (€89) in low season - or the whole compartment - for a price ranging between £307 (€359) and £341 (€399) in late May.

Finally, the most comfortable travel option available aboard the European Sleeper is called Sleepers, and is a compartment for either one, two or three people, depending on how much privacy is wanted.

The price for this compartment, which includes a washbasin and seating area, ranges from £161 (€189) to £247 (€289).

European Sleeper appears keen to carry on with expanding its routes, as it states on its website: "We will start with a train that runs from Brussels via Amsterdam to Berlin. And every year a new train connection will be added. More and more people will leave the plane, car or bus behind and discover more destinations by night."

Among the possible future destinations to be added to its routes, European Sleepers hinted at Barcelona and Stockholm.

Following the expansion last month of the route to Prague, Czech Minister of Transport Martin Kupka said: "Night trains are now making a comeback all over Europe and I am very glad that the Czech Republic is not left behind."
