Prince Harry is facing a potential ￡1 million bill after he was ordered to reimburse British taxpayers following his bid to reclaim his police protection.
The Duke of Sussex challenged the decision to remove his publicly-funded security detail after he and his wife Meghan Markle decided to quit their institutional roles.
A judge on Monday ordered Harry to pay back taxpayers for his High Court row with the Home Office for downgrading his security.
Sir Peter Lane also rejected the royal's attempt to have the potential ￡1 million bill halved after pointing out the Duke had "comprehensively lost" the case.
And in a double blow to Harry, Sir Peter also threw out Harry's application to appeal the ruling, describing his attempt as "frankly hopeless."

The Duke will still be able to approach the Court of Appeal directly should he wish to pursue the case further.
Harry challenged the Home Office's decision to downgrade his police protection after he and Meghan left the UK in March 2020.
He argued his family continued to face the same level of threat as they would have had he and the Duchess remained working members of the Royal Family.
The Duke compared the dangers he and his family faced to the risks his mother Diana, Princess of Diana had to grapple with once she lost her royal protection detail following her divorce.
The Home Office spent over ￡500,000 in public money to successfully fight the case, and Harry argued he should pay no more than half the legal costs the agency incurred.
The judge, however, hit back at the notion writing: "I am in no doubt that the claimant's submission that his costs liability should be subject to a reduction of 50-60 percent is unsupportable."

Despite the High Court siding with the Home Office in February, the Duke has continued to maintain the removal of his security details leaves him and his family vulnerable during their UK visits.
Under current arrangements, the royal is required to give 30 days' notice before every visit to the UK to allow for preparations to be made.
Sources close to the Duke have claimed he is unwilling to return with his wife and children out of concern for their safety.
