PETALING JAYA: The cost of living is an important consideration when deciding on improvements to the new salary structure for civil servants, which is almost finalised, says Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

The Prime Minister said the improvements would be decided in the Cabinet meeting later.

"I chaired the third Public Service Remuneration Study Main Committee 2024 today to further discuss the salary structure of civil servants," he said in a statement on Friday (April 19).

He also emphasised the Government's commitment to complete efforts to improve the salary structure of civil servants implemented through the Public Service Remuneration System (SSPA) study.

"This is despite the country's economy challenging the effects of global geopolitical uncertainty.

"The government takes this position and responsibility taking into account the cost of living pressure for civil servants, especially those with low income," he said.

Anwar said he would announce improvement proposals including efforts to increase the net income rate of civil servants at the Labour Day assembly later.

"Hopefully this effort will be a motivation for civil servants to increase productivity," he said.

On Jan 20, the media reported that the Interim Report 1 on the SSPA was submitted to the Prime Minister on Jan 19, said the Public Service Department (PSD).

The Prime Minister, when tabling the 2024 Budget in Parliament on Oct 13 last year announced that the SSPA will be implemented in 2025.
