KOTA KINABALU: The uphill task of poverty eradication in Sabah is making headway thanks to the government’s commitment and new policies, says Datuk Christina Liew.

The Sabah Pakatan Harapan chairman also lauded Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s determination to wipe out poverty in the state.

“Sabah is a state rich with natural resources, and yet the poverty rate is high.

“However, based on facts and figures, the numbers have gone down ever since the Unity Government came into power.

We believe that with the Prime Minister's determination and new policies, we will see more positive effects soon,” she said at the Sabah PKR Hari Raya open house on Sunday (April 21).

While some government policies might prove unpopular, Liew believes that with the support from all Sabah leaders, they could reach out and help the people, irrespective of the background.

“I am not in the technical committee, but I know that we need to stay updated on the policies and do whatever we can, as the people’s representative, to serve the people as a whole.

“This is not an easy job, there will be a lot of challenges, but it has to be done,” said the Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister.

Some 500 party members and supporters attended the event today.
