Mr Khan, who has been the Mayor since 2016, is up for re-election on Thursday, May 2.

During a debate on London's housing shortage, Conservative London Assembly Member Ms Hall said Mr Khan "has been in charge for eight years and not enough has been built".

She added: "If you listen to him giving you the stats, he'll talk about starts, I've started this, I've started that, a start could be a hole in the ground. It's not a home, it hasn't got a front door, it hasn't got a roof, it isn't somewhere you can live."

Mr Khan responded that he had been building homes despite having a Conservative Government in Westminster.

But Ms Hall countered: "It's important that the Mayor of London doesn't blame everybody else for anything that goes wrong, we must never forget we've got a £21billion budget and therefore the Mayor of London should start taking responsibility.

"Because a leader takes responsibility and Sadiq Khan just blames everybody else if something goes wrong."

Ms Hall's comments were echoed by Mr Blackie, who during a debate on public trust in policing and kife crime in the capital, said of Mr Khan's answer about youth club closures in the past 14 years, that: "It's always somebody else's fault, isn't it? You've been in charge of the police for eight years."

Mr Khan ignored Mr Blackie's comments and carried on speaking to Tilisha, an audience member who has been bravely campaigning against knife crime since her brother was killed.

Mr Nestor asked Mr Khan about Mr Blackie's comments and whether he takes any responsibility for increasing crime rates during the time he has been mayor.

However, Mr Khan did not answer and said instead: “I could have been a victim of knife crime when I was younger but my youth club and boxing mentor saved me."

The Conservative candidate added that she would propose plans to give front line police officers "metal detector" knife wands to enable them to quickly detect if someone is carrying a knife.

She also proposed scanners to detect weapons at every secondary school, but Mr Blackie asked where the money would come from to fund such an initiative.
