In the video he points to his cufflinks, saying: “Look at these here look, flag of St George.

“It’s St George’s Day today and this country of ours has been a gift to the world.

“Look at the industrial revolution, culture, art, music, sports.

“Everywhere you look on this planet, you see some of that.

“Oh by the way, happy birthday William Shakespeare.”

The avocado pears is an unusually oily fruit which is sometimes mocked as being a staple of middle-class suburbia.

Ashfield MP Mr Anderson’s post attracted plenty of support.

Jane Pounder commented: “So right Lee.”

“Am I allowed to be proud of England, though, seeing as I'm a Guardian reader who eats avocados, drives an electric car and cycles occasionally, or do I need permission from you?”

Mr Anderson’s video came after Rishi Sunak’s Rwanda Bill was finally ratified by the House of Commons, clearing the way for the controversial legislation to get Royal Assent.
