Jobless anti-Brexit campaigner Steve Bray did his best to drown out Rishi Sunak’s address to the nation today- but blew up his speakers instead.
The Welsh activist, 54, raced to the gates of Downing Street in a desperate bid to sabotage a live broadcast as the prime minister promised a July 4 general election.
But he later conceded his big moment had been ruined because torrential rain ended up damaging his mobile amplifiers.
Bray, from Port Talbot, Wales, known as Stop Brexit Man or Mr Stop Brexit, has spent the past six years hijacking live TV broadcasts in Westminster, heckling and shouting abuse at Tory MPs.
He played Things Can Only Get Better - the anthem of Tony Blair’s victorious 1997 campaign for Labour - as Mr Sunak spoke to the nation.
Instead he was left red-faced after being defeated by the British weather. Bray’s failed plot later saw him take to Twitter in an attempt to put a positive spin despite being caught on the hop.
He said: “We had a good run at Downing Street but both amplifiers got soaked and blown. They lasted for the moment that mattered.”
Bray was the Liberal Democrat candidate for the Cynon Valley constituency in the 2019 general election but lost his deposit after polling just 949 votes.

During a protest in June 2022, Bray had his equipment seized by police under the Police, Crime, Sentencing and Courts Act, which had come into force earlier that day. He later described the police powers introduced as “fascist” and an attack on the right to protest.
No attempt was made to confiscate his equipment.
The Met Police was contacted for comment.
