Keir Starmer was confirmed as the UK's new Prime Minister after his Labour Party secured an overwhelming majority and toppled a swathe of senior members of the Conservative Party.
Prime Minister Rishi Sunak took responsibility for the loss after being criticised for the timing of the vote which ultimately handed Labour a 160 majority.

Nigel Farage brought his Reform UK into Parliament for the first time, securing a seat for himself as he snatched the constituency of Clacton-on-Sea from the Tories.
But while the outcome of the vote had long been predicted in the polls, the night still came with considerable upsets. Here's what you've missed while you've been sleeping.

Former leader Jeremy Corbyn was blocked from standing as a Labour candidate by former deputy Keir Starmer last year. He swiftly announced plans to run as an independent candidate, ultimately holding on to his seat by a majority of 7,000.
The war in Gaza emerged as a key point of contention for Labour as prominent party members only narrowly managed to secure their return to Parliament.
Shadow Health Secretary Wes Streeting was also nearly ousted by a pro-Gaza independent candidate but managed to hold on to his seat by 500 votes.
Jess Phillips saw her majority collapse to less than 700 as Workers Party candidate Jody McIntyre secured 10,582 votes to her 11,275.
In a major upset to the party, paymaster general Jonathan Ashworth, who was expected to play a leading role in Starmer's government, was unseated from his Leicester South seat by another pro-Gaza independent candidate.

The SNP experienced a humiliating collapse as Labour surged past the border as well, with First Minister John Swinney seeing the party's seats in the Commons reduced to nine.
The party dropped dozens of seats in the worst general election performance in more than a decade.
The SNP has been rocked by a series of scandals in recent months and Mr Swinney came into power barely two months ago after the party's deal with the Greens collapsed.

Exit polls got it wrong
Exit polls had predicted a landslide majority for Labour and a humiliating drop for the Conservatives but still failed to encapsulate the full picture.
Reform UK was originally expected to snatch 13 seats in the Commons but ultimately secured just four.

Tory Civil War - again
Suella Braverman triggered a fresh internal dispute after delivering what was widely interpreted as her leadership pitch during her victory speech.
Within minutes of being reconfirmed as MP for Fareham and Waterlooville, the former Home Secretary apologised on behalf of the party, saying: "I'm sorry that my party didn't listen to you. The Conservative Party has let you down."
Ms Braverman is seen as a likely leadership contender should Rishi Sunak resign following the defeat.
Her comments were quickly slammed by former Tory MP Sir Charles Walker: "Absolutely disgraceful speech. On a really difficult night for the Conservative party that was just the bottom."
Former Justice Secretary Sir Robert Buckland, the first Tory to lose his seat on election night, slammed the party and said he was "fed up" with it in a blistering takedown after his defeat.
He hit out at colleagues for their "inflammatory" language and saying "stupid" things, adding he was tired of their "personal agendas."

Greens cause chaos - winning four seats, same as Reform
The Greens quadrupled its number of seats in what has become their most successful general election to date.
The party held on to their Brighton Pavillon seat while also winning North Herefordshire from the Conservatives and becoming the first to represent the newly-created constituencies of Bristol Central and Waveney Valley.
Party co-leader Carla Denyer became the first Greens MP to represent Bristol after defeating Labour opponent Thangam Debbonaire by a majority of 10,000.
Fellow co-leader Adam Ramsay overturned delivered a huge 32.1% swing from the Conservatives in Herefordshire North.

No win for Rishi in Cornwall and Wales
The Conservatives were completely wiped out across Wales and Cornwall after considerable gains made over the past two decades.
The party lost four constituencies in Cornwall, with Camborne and Redruth, St Austell and Newquay, Truro and Falmouth and South East Cornwall to Labour.
The other two seats, St Ives and North Cornwall, which were won between 2017 and 2019, have been won by the Liberal Democrats.
Labour took 27 of 32 seats available in Wales, with Plaid Cymru winning four and the Lib Dems securing one.
George Galloway not turning up to results after losing to Labour, 126 days after becoming MP
George Galloway's fourth parliamentary stint was cut short after less than five months as he lost his Rochdale seat to Labour. The Worker's Party politician won the seat in a February by-election.
Mr Galloway was not on stage as the results were read out in the early hours of Friday and sources have claimed he didn't attend the count at all.
Labour candidate Paul Waugh, a former journalist, won the seat with 13,027 votes – 1,000 more than Mr Galloway got during the by-election earlier this year.

Liz Truss loses seat and then ‘goes missing'
Former Prime Minister Liz Truss sparked a temporary panic as she was delayed from joining other candidates on stage as results for Norfolk South West were read out.
She arrived within seconds of the returning officer confirming she had lost her seat to Labour candidate Terry Jermy.
Mr Jermy secured a majority of 630 to become the constituency's new MP. Ms Truss had returned to Parliament in 2019 with a 26,000 majority.
The former Prime Minister walked off the stage straight after the results were read out and refused to give a concession speech.
She later told the BBC: "I think the issue we faced as Conservatives is we haven’t delivered sufficiently on the policies people want.
"And that means keeping taxes low, but also particularly on reducing immigration – and I think that’s been a crucial issue here in South West Norfolk.”

Tories lose town held since 1885
In a historic first, the constituency of Wokingham didn't elect a Conservative MP.
The Tories had held the seat since 1885 and was represented by Brexiteer John Redwood since 1987 but he announced earlier this year he would not contest the election.
Liberal Democrat candidate Clive Jones has become the town's new MP after securing 25,743 votes.
