While Labour is set to enter the next five years with a large majority over the Conservative Party, not every seat in the UK swung Labour’s way - proving that the Labour leader can't be too smug and complacent.

In two cities in particular, Bristol and Leicester, Labour lost out to other parties, showing that some turned their backs to Sir Keir Starmer when they went to the polls on July 4.

Three seats, Bristol Central, Leicester East, and Leicester South were conceded by Labour to the Green Party, the Tories, and one Independent MP. Jeremy Corbyn also won Islington North as an Independent candidate, beating his Labour rival.

Bristol Central swung to the Green Party with Carla Denyer winning 56.6 percent of the vote against Labour’s Thangam Debbonaire who took just 32.6 percent of the vote.

Meanwhile, further north Leicester East was captured by the Tories. Shivani Raja beat Rajesh Agrawal with the Conservative candidate taking 31.1 percent of the vote to Agrawal’s 21.6 percent.

Leicester South provided one of the shocks of the election with Jonathan Ashworth losing his seat to Independent Shockat Adam who won 35.2 percent of the votes cast to Ashworth’s 32.9 percent.

One of the reasons why Mr Adam is believed to have been victorious over Mr Ashworth is because of the Israel-Gaza war which has proved a major issue in the city of Leicester.

Following his victory over Mr Ashworth by just 979 votes, Mr Adam said: “I can say that I don’t think I have the vocabulary or the tongue to articulate what I am feeling at this moment in time.

“This was a grassroots community, constituency-run campaign which is an indication to those that have been in power for so long that you cannot forget the people that you serve.
